Nationally Acclaimed TV Program Recognized By Commissioner Board

Hunterdon County Commissioners recognized Thornton (Thor) Giese a trained archeologist and professed “science geek” on his award-winning show entitled, Thors’s Outdoor Science Academy.

At the February 20th Board Meeting, Hunterdon County Commissioners recognized Thornton (Thor) Giese a trained archeologist and professed “science geek” on his award-winning show entitled, Thors’s Outdoor Science Academy. Thor has combined his knowledge of science and education to develop a series of experimental science videos called, “Table for 92”, where he is cooking recipes using elements from the Periodic Table.

Commissioner Director, Jeff Kuhl presented Thor with a formal proclamation on behalf of the Board and said, “I would like to congratulate Thor and his team on the success of The Outdoor Science Academy series. It is a great way to make science come alive, as well as educate people in the community on the benefits of fun and healthy eating.”

Thor’s Outdoor Science Academy was founded in August of 2020, and the series implements the elements of earth, air, fire, and water to explore the elements of the periodic table through science, history, language, food, and great storytelling.

In 2021, PBS’s Emmy-winning “Into the Outdoors” network picked up Thor’s Outdoor Science Academy as part of its syndication programing. The Science Academy also has been honored as the winner of two Telly Awards and has been named a Bronze Winner for both Science & Technology and Food & Beverage in the 44th Annual Telly Awards.

Thor thanked the Commissioners for their recognition and shared, “I glad to be here tonight and want to thank the Commissioners for all the ‘behind the scenes’ work you do to maintain this beautiful county. I was born and raised in Hunterdon County, and I couldn’t have done the Outdoor Science Academy show without having lived in this community, the businesses and outdoor open spaces are absolutely necessary for the education I am doing. I feel very fortunate to share my knowledge and to pass on the legacy of logic, reason, and science that has prevailed for hundreds of years here in Hunterdon County.”

Deputy Director Susan Soloway shared, “I began watching Thor when he first started on Facebook and he was cooking using the elements from the Periodic Table, and I loved it! I am so happy that he is so successful now. Truly congratulations!”
