Hunterdon County Officials Join Local Volunteers for Meals on Wheels #SaveLunch initiative

Writer: John E. LanzaJohn E. Lanza

On Wednesday, March 19th, Commissioner Director John Lanza, Hunterdon County Prosecutor, Renée Robeson, Hunterdon County Clerk Mary Melfi and Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred Brown participated in the Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon #SaveLunch initiative, delivering meals to residents in the community and supporting a vital campaign to raise awareness about senior nutrition programs.

Commissioner Lanza shared, “Meals on Wheels is more than a meal – it’s a lifeline for many of our seniors. I am honored to participate in the #SaveLunch initiative and to support the amazing work Meals on Wheels does for our community. This program not only provides nourishment but also creates meaningful connections and combats senior isolation.”

The #SaveLunch campaign is part of a nationwide effort to highlight the essential services provided by Meals on Wheels programs and advocate for their continued support. The initiative also commemorates the historic day in March 1972 when the Older Americans Act was amended to include a nutrition program for Americans aged 60 and older. Commissioner Lanza joined volunteers in delivering meals and engaging with senior clients across the county.

The deliveries began at the Senior Center in Flemington and the Church of Holy Spirit in Lebanon, where coolers packed with nutritious meals were distributed to participants. “Meals on Wheels has been a trusted provider of meals and support services for local seniors, for many years now,” stated Mr. Lanza. “I would like to thank all the volunteers that came out today and especially Regina Hlasney, Executive Director for Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon, for her passion and tireless efforts in supporting seniors in the community.”
