Hunterdon County Commissioner and liaison to the Department of Public Works (DPW), Zach Rich, announced the completion of significant infrastructure improvements in 2024, showcasing the county’s commitment to maintaining safe and reliable roads, bridges, and parks for residents and visitors.
“Our Department of Public Works has completed an outstanding range of projects this past year, focusing on safety, durability, and long-term benefits for the county,” shared Commissioner Rich. “These achievements demonstrate the dedication of our team to infrastructure improvements keeping Hunterdon County’s roads and bridge networks among the best in the state.”
Listed below are the 2024 DPW Project Highlights:
Road Projects and Resurfacing: Over 20 miles of roads were resurfaced with modern durable materials to enhance safety and improve travel conditions. Drainage improvements were carried out to address stormwater management and reduce flooding risks. Surface Treatment and Traffic Enhancements: Numerous roads received surface treatments to extend pavement life and maintain optimal driving conditions. Traffic safety was bolstered with the application of new traffic stripes on a variety of roads, increasing visibility and guiding safer commutes. Bridge Projects: Key bridges were reconstructed, rehabilitated, and replaced, strengthening the county’s transportation network and ensuring public safety. Maintenance efforts included bridge painting, prolonging the lifespan of vital structures and enhancing their resistance to weathering. Parks Infrastructure Upgrades: Investments were made to improve infrastructure within county parks, supporting recreation and community engagement. Upgrades included improved pathways, facilities, and accessibility. In-House Projects and High-Risk Tree Removal: The DPW successfully completed numerous in-house projects, including a proactive high-risk tree removal initiative, enhancing road safety and addressing potential hazards during severe weather events. Commissioner Rich stated, “These infrastructure improvements not only enhance safety and accessibility but also reflect our ongoing commitment to the well-being of our communities.
