“Hunterdon County Continues To Champion New Era Of Municipal Partnership!”

$1 Million Municipal Parks and Recreation Grants Program Announced for 2025

Given the overwhelming popularity of last year's municipal parks and recreation grants program, the Hunterdon County Commissioner Board has approved an additional $1 million to offer another round of grants in 2025, further emphasizing their commitment to enhancing recreational spaces and preserving the county’s high quality of life.

Commissioner Director John Lanza shared, “We believe that investing in our parks and recreation facilities not only strengthens our communities but also improves the quality of life for everyone in Hunterdon County. This $1 million appropriation of grant funds highlights our commitment to preserving the natural beauty and recreational resources that make our county such a special place to live and visit.”

Following the success of the 2024 grant cycle, which distributed $1.242 million to support 19 municipalities in projects ranging from playground upgrades to trail expansions, the Commissioner Board has doubled down on its efforts to enrich Hunterdon’s parks and recreation facilities. This 2025 funding brings renewed opportunities for municipalities across the county to improve existing park amenities, expand green spaces, and promote community well-being.

Deputy Director Shaun C. Van Doren stated, “Our municipalities have consistently demonstrated the transformative impact of these grants, and the direct benefit of these projects for our residents in promoting outdoor activities. We are proud to continue supporting these initiatives with additional funding for 2025.”

Key Grant Program Details for 2025:

  • Application Period: May 12, 2025, at 9:00 AM through August 29, 2025, at 4:30 PM.

  • Maximum Grant Request: $100,000 per municipality.

  • Matching Requirement: Municipalities must contribute 25% of the total project cost.

Hunterdon County is home to over 36,000 preserved acres of farmland and open space, earning it the honor of being one of America’s safest and best places to raise a family. The Commissioner Board continues to invest in these green initiatives, ensuring that open spaces and recreational opportunities remain integral to community life.
