Commissioner Director Kuhl Demands Governor Murphy & President Biden Work Together To Impose ‘A Drone No Fly Zone’ Over New Jersey

Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl

Today, Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl, sent a letter to Governor Murphy calling upon him to work with President Biden to demand the FAA to immediately impose a no-fly zone for civilian and commercial drone operations in New Jersey.

Director Kuhl noted, “There have been multiple reports of drones operating in the vicinity near critical infrastructure facilities, including power plants, reservoirs, emergency operations centers, and military installations.” Commissioner Director Kuhl’s letter was sent after participating in a briefing with local officials at the New Jersey Regional Operations Intelligence Center (ROIC) regarding the ongoing drone sightings that have been reported across our state.

There is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding the origins of these drones, including where they take off and land. However, the drone aircraft appear to be sophisticated, with the ability to evade detection. Mr. Kuhl added, “There continues to be limited intelligence as to who is responsible for operating these drones, including the possibility of a foreign government. Given the continued uncertainty and the potential security risk these drones pose, we need our leaders at the state and federal levels to be proactive until this matter is fully investigated."
