At the January 21st meeting, the Hunterdon County Commissioner Board announced the passage of a resolution approving the 2025 Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Assistance Program (SCDRTAP) agreement.

The contract will provide funding in the amount of $858,779.73 to support transportation services for senior citizens and disabled residents in Hunterdon County.
Deputy Director Shaun C. Van Doren, who also serves as the liaison to the Department of Human Services stated, “The approval of the 2025 SCDRTAP grant agreement is a significant step in ensuring that our senior citizens and disabled residents have access to essential transportation services. These funds will enable us to continue providing reliable and accessible transportation options, which is crucial for maintaining independence and mobility throughout the community.”
In 1984, the Governor of New Jersey signed into law legislation creating the “Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Assistance Act”, allowing for Casino Tax Revenues to be utilized for the provision of elderly (60+) and disabled persons transportation. In 2024, the Hunterdon County Commissioner Board approved an application to NJ Transit Corporation to obtain State funding under SCDRTAP.
The SCDRTAP funding will be utilized to support a variety of transportation services, including curb-to-curb transportation, fixed-route services, specialized transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and other essential activities. The goal is to provide, convenient, and affordable transportation options to meet the diverse needs of Hunterdon County’s senior and disabled residents.
Commissioner Van Doren shared in closing, “I want to thank my fellow Commissioners and the dedicated Department of Human Services staff who worked diligently to secure this funding. Their efforts ensure that our most vulnerable residents continue to receive the transportation services they depend on.”
The NJ Transit Corporation obtained SCDRTAP funding in the amount of $790,286.00, with a closeout balance from previous funding in the amount of $68,493.73, for a total award of $858,779.73. The 2025 SCDRTAP agreement will be for the period of January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2025.
